If the back to school routine of early morning starts and endless extra-curricular and night time activities has left you feeling a little like an ‘exhausted pigeon’, rest assured you are not alone.
Endless to-do lists and the pressure of achieving your own work commitments while maintaining some kind of work/life balance can often feel overwhelming.
Maintaining a rational perspective is vital and good sense of humour certainly helps, but a little bit of ‘me time’ will make all the difference in the world. The benefits of taking regular time out to simply unwind and let your mind relax has been proven to improve mental health and your general sense of well-being.
As a time-poor working Mum of 3 very busy kids, I totally understand the difficulty of actually finding that time and unless I plan it on my to-do list it often just doesn’t happen. It’s so easy to become preoccupied ensuring the needs of everyone else are met we regularly neglect our own.
When I do get some time to myself the benefits are obvious to everyone (including the kids!) – I’m calmer, more positive and, if I’m being very honest, probably more fun to be around.
